Local news stations, ESPN, social media, and Reddit topped the list of preferred news sources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They were also concerned that AI Mode was not accurate or timely with its information, so there was some skepticism about the credibility of the summaries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were many interesting reactions to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ipullrank.com\/ai-mode-ux-webinar\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI Mode in our study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Farrah Bostic of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thedifferenceengine.co\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Difference Engine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to learn the search habits of average people. We\u2019ll see if any interesting search habits pop up so those in the publishing industry can get a better grasp of the future of search for news.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-91703dd elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"91703dd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Overall Data from the AI Mode Study\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-245e594 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"245e594\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the overall findings from task #3 from our AI Mode study:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">38.24% were shown AI Mode as an option<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2% used AI Mode, but none of them used it unprompted<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">18.6% engaged with AI Overviews and 75% unfurled them<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14% of those who unfurled AI Overviews clicked on the links<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Average number of links clicked: 1.09<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Average time to complete the task: 56 seconds<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Average score for ease: 4.1<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Average score for satisfaction: 4.39<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are the typical search terms the study participants used:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terms that would ensure locality of the results, like \u201cnear\u201d, or a specific city or county name as part of the search string<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Words that would yield timely results like \u201ctoday\u201d or \u201cbreaking\u201d, indicating they were searching for current, up-to-date information<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The word \u201cstories\u201d, which might indicate either a desire for narrative\/articles over stats and headlines<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refinements to search specifying geographic locations, adding town\/city names or zip codes to the search string<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some clicked on the News tab in Google then engaged with the Top Stories there, and while some engaged with the AI Overviews, many were concerned that the information was not timely or current.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many bypassed searching altogether by going straight to their local TV station websites, or ESPN, Fox Sports, or other sports-specific websites if their interest was more in sports news. Some also preferred to go to social media or Reddit for news. One ChatGPT user found the LLM\u2019s news inaccurate.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI Mode was mostly seen as generic, less visual, and less trustworthy for current events.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-96de4d2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"96de4d2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Using AI Mode to Research Local News and Sports\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d77a79 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5d77a79\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter how many of these recordings I watch, I will always see someone do something I\u2019ve never tried before. A 43-year-old participant from Fresno, CA, said she typically selects the Google News page from the menu on the right.
